How to Choose a Domain for a School or College
DomainHostly Team · 1 November 2026
A school's domain appears on admission forms, circulars and staff email. Changing it later affects everybody, so choose carefully.
Use a clear short form of the institution's name, with the town if the name is common. Long full names are difficult for parents to type.
Register it under the institution, using an office email that will outlast any one staff member.
Eligible educational institutions in India may be able to use special extensions such as .edu.in or .ac.in, which have their own rules and approval process. Check the current requirements first.
Keep the renewal date with the office and with more than one person. An expired domain can stop your website and all staff email.
